Most people who take Cytomel split the dose and take half with their Synthoid in the morning and the other half sometime in the afternoon. Cytomel is very fast-acting, so if you don't split it, you can experience peaks and valleys in your levels throughout the day. You can experiment with when it's best for you to take the second half dose, but most people try to take it before about 3:00 in the afternoon (depending on schedule, of course) so that it doesn't disturb sleep. Try that...I bet it will help even things out a bit.
I did split the dose in half for the first week. Now I am taking the full 5mcg of Cytomel in the morning. I feel really good until about 3:00 in the afternoon. That is about when the I got really antsy yesterday. Felt kind of like I could jump out of my skin. My pulse was normal.
Are you splitting your Cytomel into two doses?
The Cytomel was added after the labs. The doctor did not decrease my Synthroid. I was recently raised to 137 after my labs showed that my TSH was going up. I had been on 125. When she gave me the Cytomel and did not lower the Synthroid I went back to the 125. She does not like to prescribe T3 drugs but I aggravated her and she did. I don't think she knows anything about them. You would have thought she would look before prescribing anything. I have an appointment with a new doctor on September 14th. I know she is more open than most but I hope she does her homework too.
When the Cytomel was added, did your doctor lower your Synthroid dose to compensate? The rule of thumb is to decrease Synthroid by 25 mcg for every 5 mcg Cytomel added IF you want to keep the overall dose the same. Were these labs before you added the Cytomel?
Just because your total T4 is above range doesn't mean that your FT4 is too high. You should really ask to have FT4 tested and talk to your doctor (you might have to demand to) about lowering your Synthroid. I wouldn't cut either pill in half...that's probably too drastic a cut and will send you right over into hypo again. Thyroid meds have to be adjusted in very small increments.
I have Hashimoto's. I will try to contact her again. If no luck I will definitely get with you. I have supplies of both strengths of Synthroid. I do no take them together. Just wondering which one to split.
(What) have you been diagnosed with? I'm curious to know why the dosage is so high; I've had thyroid cancer which is in remission; I know why my dose is up to 150 mg (in orfer to keep my TSH undetectable)
I had same problem with the nervousness; touch bases with me if the doctors don't respond
