New here - Central Hypothyroidism
Hi my name is Sara and I'm new to this forum. I'm 32 years old, have two children and was diagnosed with Central Hypothyroidism while pregnant with my second child in 2008. I take 100mcg of synthroid and will be getting an MRI done soon. I'm also going to ask about getting a TRH stimulation test. I'm curious how many others here have Central Hypothyroidism; I know it is more rare. If you have it, can you share your story/experience? Thank you!
I've had labs done every three months since 2008. Just recently I slacked on my synthroid and my levels again indicated CH, so Dr. Is fairly certain. They do go by the Free T3 and Free T4 levels for adjusting my medication.
I don't have that but have central something else.
Stuff I read is CH is about 10-20% of patients with hypothyroidism. Biggest issue with that is the question, what the hell is going on with the patients pituitary? I think often the answer is, 'we got no idea' so doctors just treat the underlying deficiency.
One thing is, if you're diagnosed with central hypothyroidism a doctor cannot use TSH to set your dose of meds. Any doctor that does is engaging in malpractice.
I read here an there a while back that there is some suspicion that post postpartum depression is often actually sub-clinical hypopituitarism. Also pregnancy pushes everything to the limit.
Me, I'd wonder if you could taper off you meds now that you are no longer pregnant. It appeared to me when I was first diagnosed that the endocrinologist spend about six months trying to make sure that the problem wasn't temporary.
