New here, but not new to frustration..

I am having my thyroid removed on Wed. after YEARS of chasing my tail.  I have had chronic headaches for years.  I have been in the hospital for weeks at a time, but to no avail.  Finally 2 1/2 years ago a great Rheumy DX'ed me with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue.  It made me feel like I was not losing my mind.  Well the plot thicjened when I notice the "bump" on my neck was getting larger as I was gaining weight.  I finally got into a Endo.'s office and have had 3 FNB all saying that I have a "cold"thyroid...  I think that is the correct one.Yet my blood was always normal.  After more than 20 years of a bump on my neck, ny new Endo said that since it is growing (the nodules) and I am having problem swallowing after I cough, it might be time to do something.  For so long I thought everything I was noticing was related to the Fibro, but not so quick..  My surgeon said that even with routine biopsies that there si a small chance that cancer is being missed.  I decided it was time to get back my ability to swallow and even if the chances of cancer are 1 in 100, he sad 1 in 20.  I am not willing to take that chance.  Trust me my story is much longer than this, but in all honesty I am getting tired...  Thanks for the fine group...

I am having surgery tomorrow, Wed 21st too.  I am really nervous and scared but I have to get it done.  I have been hypo for like 12 years and on synthroid.  The past year I have not been able to get my thyroid to normal.  Had US and biopsy and I have Hashimoto's Disease.  They also found a nodule on my isthmust that is 3.9 cm and my whole gland is very enlarged.  The biopsy showed follicular neoplasm so they need to remove it in order to see if it is cancerous.  The nodule was solid with blood flow and hypechoic.  So, I will be thyroid free as of tomorrow.  I'm just so nervous and hoping my neck don't look Frankenstein.  I just try to remember I am on my way to better health and a scar is worth that, for me and my family.  Hang in there!!!

You will be just fine. I had mine taken out 16yrs ago, so I am pretty sure alot has changed & made easier for this type of surgery.

Good luck....make sure to rest afterwards, don't over do it....
