Hypothyroidism to sudden hyperthyroidism?

Hi,

I am a 63 year old, postmenopausal woman who has been hypothyroid for many years and had been stabilized on 125 mcg. of Synthroid.  My TSH has consistently been within 1-2 and I have felt well.  Suddenly, over six weeks ago, I became hyperthyroid with debilitating symptoms i.e. insomnia, agitated fatigue, inability to concentrate, and heart palpitations, fine hand tremor, etc.  and a TSH of .61..  I have been having a terrible time regulating my thyroid medication;(have lowered my dose three times and am now taking .88 mcg) but am gradually feeling better.  What could account for such a sudden shift from hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism?  I have been worried that there might be an underlying, undiagnosed condition..

Thank you very much.

Body changes, viral infections, stress...you name it, anything can cause the tsh to go haywire.
Mine went from 2.3 to 60 in 2 weeks because of massive stress at work.
Amazing how the body reacts to stress.
