Edit:
An university clinic endocrinologist said, watching and recheck the TSH and free T4 (direct) in 6 months unless there are symptoms. He also said checking T3 and thyroid antibodies are unnecessary right now. The TSH and free T4 (direct) are sufficient. He felt the patient thyroid and said it has a little (about 1/3) enlargement. He said the patient conditions (no symptoms) are unusual and whether the patient should begin to take the medications are 50 vs. 50. He also said it would NOT cause difficulty to treat the thyroid disease IF the patient has developed the symptoms later. Do you agree? .
Do you have Free T3 results? This is the active/usable thyroid hormone, since FT4 must be converted FT3 prior to use.
Some people have "higher than normal" TSH, but we often see that TSH is not really indicative of thyroid status.. Do you know if you have an autoimmune thyroid disease? If so, which one?
Symptoms are always most important, so if you truly have none (have you checked out the symptoms list for hypothyroidism? There are some we'd never expect), you might be okay watching, but I'd really want to see an FT3 and know whether or not you have thyroid antibodies.
Everyone is different, so that's a decision between you and your doctor.
