OFF topic some - but just want you all to know...

Hi everyone...

I just wanted to drop another note on my absence lately...  On top of that J. O.  B.  thing.. I got a cold.. first one on over a year - AND ...

after I got the news on Friday that I didn't have a job anymore, my husband and I already had a plan in motion to drive to Ohio to get a dog out of a shelter that was going to be put down... There was nothing wrong with her - just no one wanted her and they had to start the weening process from the "inventory"...

We weren't really looking for another dog and I happened to stumble across the shelter's website late one night weeks ago. Her story broke my heart and I had to save her. She was in a puppy mill 8 mths and then got to the shelter. She was tried out twice and brought back and they she was on the chopping block until I called them.

She is a one year old Cocker-Dachshound mix. She was named Violet at the shelter and we kept her name. We drove 14 hours Saturday to pick her up and bring her home. She is an absolute dream with no issues at all and such a lover that seems to be so grateful she now has a home. It was love for me - at first site and I think hers too...

No matter what that job I had - did .... This little Violet was not going to die... and I was going to give her a home.

Please if you can... help these animals in anyway you can. Puppy mills must be shut down so animals like this are not thrown into the trash. Stop the abuse of animals. These shelters are there to help but the mass amounts of abused and breedings now going on are too much for even them to save them all...

Thank you.

Stella, your dog is adorable and I'm sure you will have lots of wonderful years with her.

We are on our third rescue dog also.  Last summer we had to put down our cocker spaniel that was 17 yrs old and came from the shelter -- she was so old and had too many medical issues and meds could no longer make her comfortable.

The 2 dogs we have now are both rescues also.  One (a beagle mix) was gotten for an 80 yr old man as a puppy -- someone didn't have their thinking cap on there!!  Anyway, she was headed to the pound, so we took her.

The other one we now have is another cocker spaniel that was used for breeding in a puppy mill.  Someone actually cut her vocal cords so she can make no sound whatsoever, except snoring.  When the puppy mill got done with her, they took her to the pound, which then called the cocker spaniel rescue ---- poor thing.  She's about 10 yrs old and probably won't live a whole lot of years more because she was treated so badly, but at least she will live out the rest of her life being happy and well cared for.

Okay, so you found my weak spot...adorable.  We're on our third rescue, and I wouldn't do it any other way...they're the best.  I've been cruising the shelter for a while...need the right "match" for our current dog...wondeful, but just a tad jealous and likes being "only dog".  Best of luck...I know she'll be great.
