Pain for over a year, and getting worse

Is there anyway to find out exactly where the pain is and how to ease it? More than a year ago I remember burping or coughing and I felt a pop in my back. It is on the left side, just below my sholder blade and just above where my rib cage begins(from the bottom up), towards my side not my spine. Is this maybe a ripped muscle or a cracked rib?
