My father had his thyroid removed several months ago. I'm concerned about some extreme mood & personality changes that I have seen. He was always a little moody, but tolerable. Since this procedure, he has almost been unbearable. He is short, moody, extremely negative and nit picks the littlest things. He's always anaylized things, but it is extreme now. When things go wrong, it is someone elses fault. There is virtually nothing that is good in his opinion. He has no ambition, he used to mow lawn, do some household chores, now he does virtually nothing. He is always removing himself from family activities or makes excuses not to participate, but then complains that we don't include him. He is constantly cold. If we says its a nice day, he can't believe we could possibly think that. If we said the sky is blue, he would argue why its not. He admits to not having ambition & is cold, but he thinks this is normal and a side affect to having his thyroid removed. Problem we have is that he doesn't think he has a problem. We don't think he tells his doctor how he's acting or feeling. Or maybe he doesn't realize how extreme his personality has changed. My mother doesn't know what to do, in turn it is affecting her as well, she is having a hard time being patient, because of how he acts toward her. What can we do with someone who doesn't realize he has a problem? I'm concerned about going behind his back to talk to his doctor, I don't think he'd understand that it is out of extreme concern for his well being. Besides I don't think a doctor would talk to me about his condition. My mother is concerned about doing the same thing and dealing with the results of his anger about going behind his back. I see no other options, he certainly would not agree to go to the doctor to see if we are maybe right and would argue that we're wrong. Is this related to his Thyroid removal? He is on replacement drugs, but I don't know at what level, I know he takes half pills, but that's about it. Help!!
