Pathology report

My husband had a complete thyroidectomy and his pathology results are being sent for a diagnostic consultation.  The report stated : right lobe : preliminary diagnosis- Oncocytic adenoma 3mm
left lobe : preliminary diagnosis-Oncocytic neoplasm 3cm
What does this mean ?  Why did they need a second opinion ?

Onocystic - the study of tumors (Sound like a soft tissue (cystic not solid)
Neoplasm + a tumor/ nodule

adenoma  a benign tumor of a glandular structure or of glandular origin

These are just what I found - I have learned  to try and take each "medical word" go to the Online Webster's dictionary that references med terms and take each word one by one and get the defination for it. Then I piece the puzzle. Sometimes it works and sometimes I still am confused.

Others here are very good with med terms and after I do my own research I post it and then get the responses to understand even more. I hope the above helps you.

If I am correct - it doesn't sound bad. I just sounds like a cystic tumor - or nodule is present and they are pretty confident is is beign. Many people have nodules with in the body and nothing is done. -- only rechecks. I am not ---BY   FAR -- a solid source in this - so hopefully others will read this and give you more info.

The second opinion means they want to make absolutely certain they are correct in any diagnosis. Covering their butt's so to speak so that your husband recieves the proper treatment. I opted for a 2nd opinion on my path report too. It's piece of mind.

As far as the wording of the path report itself I can't answer sorry.

Hopefully someone else will know-  hang in there - this is a great place to be.
