Post Thyroidectomy Problems

Hello all - I am a 25yr old female. I had a thyroidectomy back in 2000 (they left 3 grams). They were hesitant about doing it b/c I was so young, BUT my thyroid was so diseased that they had no choice. Well...after my surgery I went through the "normal" stuff: weight fluctuation, hair loss, mood swings, etc. It eventually stopped and I lived normally and happily throughout the rest of high school and even college. Now, years later, I am struggling with thyroid problems again. I've undergone more radioactive iodine 3 times in the last 2 months...then I had a biopsy done. Thankfully, it is not cancer. I am grateful for that completely, but still overwhelmed and frustrated because I have no clue as to why I am going through all of this again. There's nothing left to take out of my body, right? So my question is...what could be wrong? what other complications/diseases/illnesses can come YEARS AFTER a thyroidectomy? I hope someone has had this same experience and can shed some light on such a gloomy issue. Any thoughts or comments are more than greatly appreciated. Thank you =)

You should get your levels tested.  Peoples bodies and hormones change as they age and that could potentially affect your thyroid levels.  Often med dosages that have worked for years need to be adjusted.  It's not unusual.

It is probably related to your actual thyroid levels being off (too low or out of balance) Do you have your last labs that you can post for us to see with reference ranges? If so, please post them so we can give you are experienced opinions. Also, what medication do you take for thyroid replacement and at what amount? My daughter was born without a thyroid, and when things are off slightly for her she can feel it and medication can also be an issue if you are not converting well.
