Now that you know thyroid is going to be an issue, to a greater or lesser extent, for the rest of your life, one of the best things you can do is start getting copies of your blood work and keeping your own history. It's often best to pick up a paper copy, since that will have the lab's reference ranges on it as well. Ranges vary lab to lab, so you have to post results with ranges.
Thyroid test ranges are very flawed, so many people experience hypo symptoms in the lower half of the ranges. I can't tell you how many people feel hypo "in range".
So, if you want to get hold of those results and ranges and post them, we can start showing you how to interpret them.
How long ago was your latest blood work, and when are you scheduled for the next?
I'm simply stuck, I just turned 50..supposed to the be in the 50 and fabulous club!
Not so much for me.
On December 18, 2013 I had a partial too. ever since then its been an emotional roller coaster.
Depressed, weight gain, and so very tired.
No meds yet required. I'm not eating anything irregular, so why am I gaining weight if the doctor said it the partial wouldn't affect me???
I'm so confused.....and so done with being sick.
Had the blood test, after two weeks of surgery and I'm within range they say...all i can do is wait until the next appointment??
Any advice?
Oh okay, well good luck with ur recovery and thank you. definitely gona get my blood tests and see what happens
Yes, it is possible to become hypo if you only have a partial thyroidectomy. You should have your FT3, FT4 and TSH monitored until you see if the remaining lobe is able to produce enough hormone for you.
I can't comment on the surgery since I still have my thyroid (I have Hashi's).
Its not possible to become hypo if u only had partial taken out isnt it? Thank you very much though, do any of you guys still have anxiety? I got my surgery done monday and my doctor told me everything should change after and its worse then it ever was before =/
As long as you are not hypothyroid, you should not gain weight, especially since you have never been prone to. Make sure that your doctor is treating you for symptoms and based on FT3 and FT4, not just TSH. FT3 and FT4 often have to be in the upper half of their ranges before we feel our best.
They didnt put me on thyroxide medication because they said my right sides thyroid will take over both, do u think i should ask for my doctor too? but thank you :)
As long as your thyroxine medication is right and your TSH is normal, there is no reason to gain weight.. Consult your physician for more answers
