Pregnancy, HypoT and Lupus

I have been given conflicting advice on whether it is safe for me to get pregnant and what it would mean for the health of the baby.  I have mild SLE with positive ANA and dsDNA.  My symptoms are well controlled with 400 mg of Plaquenil daily and all my vital organs are currently untouched by the disease (normal kidney, cardiac and lung function).
I have struggled with a very low T3 and T4 for some time. I have an enlarged thyroid. Recently, my doctor prescribed Cytomel after I had a horrible allergic reaction to Synthroid and all it's generic derivatives.  My T3 and T4 are still low but my TSH is within normal range and I feel my energy is better and my brain feels less "foggy".
I would love to have a child but understand if it's not in the cards, than it's just not in the cards. If my disease can be managed through pregnancy and my baby has normal chances of a healthy outcome, I would like to try.
Please advise. . .
S.

Laura 1967,
Thank you for your response and kind words.  I had not hear of Wes-Throid, only Armour.  I will certainly look into it.
Also, I had mistaken this forum for the physician one so thank you for pointing that out.
Of course, I feel that with issues like hypo and Lupus, usually the patients are better informed of what's out there!  :)

Thank you!
S.

Hi and welcome! Unfortunately your situation is a more complex one that is best advised by your doctors. This is a patient forum and we can only share experiences here and give our patient advice.
I do know that you should not have a baby unless your thyroid levels are corrected and stabalized, otherwise it can affect the development of the baby.
You were probably allergic to the fillers in the synthroid. Have you tried Wes-Throid? It is the natural form of thyroid hormone like Armour, but it is the most hypo-allergenic one on the market. It is a combo med with both T4 and T3.....worth a shot to ask dr if you can try it. It is miserable to live hypo. Don't give up hope.....just keep searching! :)
