Aging, patital thyroidectomy, and hypothyroidism

I am 56 and had a parital thyroidectomy at 38.  Up to now the other lobe has done an excellent job making up the loss.  I may have gegun to have symptoms of hypothyroidism.  Does aging tend to affect the ability of the remaining lobe to perform adequately.

Curious? What was the reason for your PT? I had a nodule and doc was not sure if it was cancerous so that's why I had the surgery. I had it done in May '08. The nodule was benign.  I went to see the Endo at the end of May and he said I need to take meds now. He never mentioned meds before the surgery. As far as I know, my thyroid function is normal.  I have been on meds since.
How often do you go to have your thyroid checked to make sure it's ok?  Did the docs ever tell you that you had to take meds? You didn't mention if you were or not.
I hope I don't get hypo.  I am almost 40 yrs old. So I don't know about the aging factor affecting the function.
