Question and update

Sio I had a tsh of 6, doc put me on Synthroid at .25 MCG and I went down yto a TSH of 2 after 6 weeks! Question: I am on Effexor which lists hypothyroid as rare side effect. I am stopping it. Do you think that is what caused my problem? And if so, do you think now that I am stopping my TSH will be too low because I am still on synthroid? Hm

My guess is that it's the effexor.  25 mcg is a very low dose of thyroid hormone.  If you truly don't need it, your thyroid ought to be able to slow down production a bit to accomodate the small dose.  Good idea to see an endo.  Ask him to run FREE T3 and FREE T4 in addition to TSH.  He might also want to run TPOab and TGab to see if you have the antibodies that indicate Hashi's.

I may cut my dose in half until I see the endo.

Hm, I dunno. I am going to make an appointment with an endo, because I am coming off the effexor and feeling agitated. But I don't know if that is because I am stopping effexor or becoming hyperthyroid?

It's possible, especially if you were tending toward hypo before taking Effexor, that it put you over the edge.

Did you have hypo symptoms before Synthroid?  Is your doctor testing FT3 and FT4 as well as TSH?  TSH is a pituitary hormone, a screening test at best, and should never be used alone to prescribe or adjust meds.

How long had you been taking Effexor before you had the elevated TSH?
