That free t4 is low.
If you began to feel worse after starting the Synthroid, adrenal insufficiency should be suspected.
The product insert for levothyroxine meds actually states that adrenal insufficiency should be ruled out before treating a patient with it.
This is best tested for by doing an ACTH Stimulation test or at the least, an 8 am Cortisol.
I had been on Zoloft for 4 yrs. I had read "somewhere" on the internet that Zoloft can affect your thyroid. I did wean VERY slowly. Also I cannot for the life of me (brain fog??) remember my TSH, but my free T4 was .6 and my Dr. said she wanted it at 1.3.
To adreilove I have been taking synthroid in the morning, and each day I feel worse. I keep telling myself it's all in my head and I'll feel GREAT the next day, but I just keep getting worse.
I really didn't want to start the Wellbutrin, but looks like I'll have to. For awhile at least. Bummer.
Thank you ladies for all your help. It seems this can been a frustrating health issue!
i suggest you take the synthroid in the morning. it will actually give you more enery. i have been taking 112 mcg for about ten years now and i noticed it helps to wake you. my doctors always told me to take in the morning. yes, unfortunately it`s going to take a few days before the synthroid stats really working but you will feel a lil better shortly. as for depression, well, if your thyroid gets bad then you can get really bad depression. i don`t know much about wellbutrin but i do know you can take both togather. just be sure to steer clear of paxil. when your thyroid gets better then you will have more energy and the depression will also be better.
How long have you been off the Zoloft?
Did you wean slowly?
What were your thyroid levels before starting the Synthroid?
Zoloft has been associated with causing hypothyroidism, though my endo says he has never seen this.
Wellbutrin is Ok with Synthroid - but you need to follow your TSH and make sure it goes to the lower end of normal before you really see relief in your depression. I would guess a TSH around 0.3- 1.0 may be somewhere you will start to feel better. Then when you get there - you may be able to ween off and get on supplements to help you cope better.
Thank you so much. That site is great. I was hoping to avoid taking an anti depressant again. But I feel that the synthroid is just exasperating all my problems. The past 5 days or so have been rough. Exauhsted and literally screaming at my kids. I don't know if my family can wait the "" 4 - 6 weeks "" synthroid takes. Ever wonder why one can't just be 'normal'!
You could call your pharmacist and ask... also can check here:
http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/Interaction/ChooseDrugs/1,4109,,00.html
The drug digest allows you to put any and all medications you are taking and it will tell you if there are interactions with each other.
Good luck.
