RAI Uptake Results

Hello!

I just got back from my RAI uptake scan and I was curious about the results.  I know normal thyroid uptake is 10 to 30%, but what are typical results for someone with Grave's Disease? Mine was 78.5% and the radiologist is going to call with more info after she looks over the pictures. Anyone have an idea of the range?

Uptake after:

6 hours   1-16%
24 hours  8-25%

It seems like you're well over range.

"Graves disease usually yields RAIU values of 40 to 80% (normal 10 to 30%) at 24 hours. However, high-turn over varieties may manifest only as elevated 4-6 hour RAIU values (normal 4 to 15%), as 24 hour RAIU results may be normal or only mildly elevated."

So, your result is toward the high end of the typical Graves' result.

Oh whoops, that's for a normally functioning thyroid. Any clue about the range for Grsves patients?

It was 24 hours, but I'm still way up there. Yikes! Thanks for the quick reply!
