I actually talked to Rodeo Queen on the phone today. From what I can interpret (I don't speak MDeese either) it looks like papillary carcinoma which spread past the thyroid and into the fatty tissue outside the thyroid. It also looks like follicular cancer (hey, a 2-for-1 diagnosis, wahoo). :-(
The PC spread into the lymph system.
From our phone conversation, there is still quite a bit of thyroid tissue left after the surgery which needs to be removed. RAI also needs to be done because of the 2 types of cancer and the metastatic spread (and to see if there is distant metastases).
As I mentioned on the phone, the hospital RodeoQueen has locally is really a small, community hospital and is not equipped to handle her case. Luckily she has an appointment with the best cancer treatment/research facility in the Inter-mountain area (Huntsman Cancer Center) on Monday.
I'm *SO* glad that RQ didn't listen to the doctor's "wait and see" approach and got it out! Can you imagine how much it could have spread while everyone was just watching it?!?!
Go RodeoQueen (and mom) - taking control of your health care is a *huge* step towards curing this stuff!
Much love
a very tired Utahmomma
It extends focally just barley throught the capsule to adjacent adipose tissue, which is adherent to the thy5roid.Tumor extends widley to 1/10 of a millimeter og the inked margin. Tumor is not actually identified in the inked margin,4 Samll lymph nodes are present in slide 1a. Three of them contain metastic PC/ There is a small parathyroid in slide 1g
I AM NOT A DR. but it looks like the lymph nodes have some pap ca in them ?????? And that it spread slightly beyond the tumor itself slightly into the margin ????
What do you all think? I'm not really good at interpreting these but the above listed paragrah I think says that what I listed above .. UTAH .. HELP!!!
