Hi,

given that there is a single hot nodule and subclinical hyper, I would be asking for a second opinion before RAI.

RAI is permanent.  THen you have to deal with being hypothyroid for the rest of your life.

I believe you may have the option just to have that single nodule removed and the pathologist would check to make sure no other problems.

There are also drugs that can be used to suppress hyperthyroid.

I would also be asking this question over on the thyroid drs forum (you may need to try a few times before you can get in to put your post as they have a daily limit for the number of questions).

I am on the ms forum because of neuro. symptoms ,  however, I have graves disease, and was treated for it by RAI.. in 2005.  In my opinion, I would have never chose that option if I knew better. Since I had it, My eyes have popped out and I had 3 eye surgeries and awaiting my 4th. It does say RAI could make the eye disease worse.  Did your doc. recommend surgery to remove the thyroid or take medication.
I do not work anymore because of this whole nightmare. My eye problems are worse than the thyroid problem ever was,, which got pretty bad after doing the RAI.
I  hope your doc. steers you in the right direction, ask for as much info. on it as you can.
If you have any questions I am not an expert or a doc. but I have been there and still am dealing with it.
Take Care, Pamela :)
