Your swallowing issue could well be from the intubation tube. This is used to keep you breathing whilst under. Often it can bruise the esophagus area and cause a little swelling. This does go down in time.
Did they put you on any calcium supplements? This again is a common thing from having the thyroid removed. Often the parathyroids are slightly messed about and affect the calcium for a while. Often the calcium resolves itself, sometimes it takes a while to settle down.
Cheers!
Give your body time to heal and rest as you have just been through a major op.
Eat icecream or jelly or even soups until the swallowing sensation starts to subside.
I guess its like having your tonsils out...hurts to swallow the first few days.
Take Care and rest :)
I had my thyroidectomy about 10 weeks ago. I had to stick to a very soft food diet for the first several days. Everyday the swallowing got a little better. I also had a terrible feeling of a lump in my throat that didn't help matters. Everything gradually got better over time. Just take it easy and get lots of rest. Hope your feeling better soon.
