Ratios and dosage Question

What is the comparable dosage requirement from taking Armour thyroid to a Cytomel/Synthroid dosage.

If a person was on 1 grain of Armour - what's the equvilant of Cytomel/Synthroid?

Does anyone know the bovine ratios - compared to porcine?

Either I am missing finding these questions out - or I am just to busy lately with everything else...

Thanks

Wow. Too bad dessicated is banned in the land down under. Hope that doesn't happen here in the USA. Some of us really feel better from T3 and the only synthetic T3 here is Cytomel, the generic was canned a while back. Its weird, Cytomel gave me never ending headaches, but Armour and this generic equivilant I found called Major Thyroid does not give me any headaches! I cant wait for our Nature-Throid to get cought up, as I have lost trust in the Armour brand.

What I found on Bovine: In the US it seems bovine is only in non prescription, non- FDA regulated thyroid support 'supplements' that I found available on the internet. I really cant imagine taking a 'supplement' that has real dessicated hormones in it! Talk about 'winging it'! That sounds like VERY risky stuff, could kill someone.

Natural thyroid is literally banned in Australia so I am only posting what I have researched.
I have no knowledge of the actual effects as I am super dooper drug sensitive to T4 med so cant even consider a natural hormone.
This is a subject that I would very much like to research more as it does intrigue and interest me but as I said my knowledge is not first hand as I have never taken it.
Pig hearts and valves are used routinely here in Oz for heart patients and from what I have researched ...the pig is the most identical animal to humans.
Australia banned Armour not because they believed it was wrong but because I would suspect a lot were taking it for weight loss more than anything.
Also it was inconsistant in regards to batches.
As for trying to 'fix' these problems...they banned it rather than 'fixing' the issues.
This is a gross misjustice to thyroid sffers for people like RedheadAussie whom I believe would benefit from it.
We do have compounding chemists and Doctors but they do cost an arm and a leg to just make an appointment with them.
But as I said ......I have no need to be on anything other than T4 as a few times I have gone hyper ...even on a dose of 62.5mcg with T4 med and i also have heart issues.
I do believe that Natural Desiccated Hormones should be available to those who really need it.
I am all 'for'anything that gives a person quality of life...regardless of where it comes from or what it comes from.
I know that if my T4 med gave up on me working well..I would seek alternatives until I found what did give me quality of life.
Life is too short to sit and judge over who takes synthetics, natural or whatever.
Quality is life is what every thyroid sufferer deserves....nothing more, nothing less.

If you find out more about this subject, I would be most interested in reading and researching more.

I was just curious what meds used bovine (cow, steer, oxen ect.) since I had a doctor that thought that's what Armour was made from. He did not know Armour was from pig/pork (Porcine).

I have not heard of bovine used in any thyroid meds sold in the USA., maybe in other countries?

I tried to find more info on this leftover generic Major Thyroid  I am temporarily taking, the pharmacist could only tell me it was from animal thyroid but not specifically porcine or bovine. The T ratios are the same amount as Armour though.

Proloidâ„¢  is porcine. Thyror and Armour is pork.
I saved the info to pdf but impossible to copy and paste here.
Just google those products and I am sure they will come up with the answers.
Hope that helps.

Related question - What brands had bovine or is this just used in compounding?

I know Armour and  Nature-Throid are porcine. I hope the Major Thyroid (generic I found at Walgreens) is porcine like Armour was. I cant tell much difference yet, only on it for one week so far.

Thanks

Hope that helps.

Seems the porcine is more potent than the bovine.
Cytomel is 4 to 1.(0.20% to 1.0)
Bovine is approximatelt 0.23% to 1.0)
Porcine is more potent than Bovine but doesnt really say how much.
I'll keep digging.
