Regrowth of tyroid tissue?

Hi, I took radioactive iodine when I was 13.  It killed my hole thyroid, now I must take synthroid med. every day for the rest of my life. When the doctor gave my the vial of iodine he let me decide  how much to take. Now that I'm 32 and have been taking this med. for a long time now, I'm sick of taking it. Is there ANY way that I can stop taking this med.,or have my thyroid gland be regrown? If the doctor didn't know how much to give me, he should've asked someone for advice not let a 13 yr. old decide.Now after I got out of high school I wanted to join the armed forces, but because of me taking med. I can't join any branch. It affected me alot in my life decisions and I'm very upset how he let me decide how much to take.!

Can you really regrow your thyroid ?  Have you had any successfully examples ? Thanks.

I'm in the process of regrowing my thyroid naturally, i'm taking half of my docs dosage of the levoxyll pill and supplementing natural kelp, a seaweed form of herb in a capsule. Wow! I hope he is not still practicing. He doesn't sound very caring.You must take synthroid for life.

Me, my mother and the doctor were in the room, he came in with a little vial, gave it to me and said "drink as much as you want, you can drink the whole thing of half or whatever you want". The vial was very small, I didn't intend to drink the whole thing but it was empty before I knew it. It destroyed my whole thyroid, now I'm taking synthroid pills .175 mg a day.But yes he let me decide at the ripe, mature age of 13!

Do you mean the doctor let you decide how much synthroid to take?  I can't see him handing you radioactive iodine and telling you to take as much as you want. That is very potent stuff and is handled by radiation techs.  I am sorry and surprised that a thyroid condition kept you out of the forces because it is very manageable.
