Should I be medicated?

Help. I need a second opinion.
I have recently been diagnosed with Graves disease, for which my endo has prescribed 10mg. of methimizole. I have no symptoms of hyperthyroid (other than being tired, but have two small children who don't sleep through the night). I really don't want to take medication that will potentially present negative side effects when I feel fine now. It doesn't seem logical. My doctor said I shouldn't wait for symptoms before I take the meds. Will I inevitably experience symptoms?

My blood test results are as follows:
TSH      <0.01
T3           171
Free T4    1.12
Thyroperoxidase antibody 1256

I have read that if your Total T4 is normal (which mine is), meds aren't necessary. Any information on that?

Please advise.

Sorry, there are no natural remedies to cure or treat hyperthyroidism.

If you keep track of your thyroid levels by each time getting copies with Labs reference range, you will know if you need the meds or not, and realize how ludicrous is your statement about doctor and pharmaceutical companies .

Depending on which medicines vs side effects vs med. dose and levels.

If you want to stay healthy and alive you'd go with the norm in treatment per doctor!

I've recently been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I'm looking into natural remedies. I don't want to have to take hormones for the rest of my life if my thyroid is removed. Personally, I think some doctors make deals with pharmaceutical companies in order to keep the patient on drugs. Not to mention the side effects that could result from the medications.

You can reach the Doctor Thyroid Forum and  Dr. Lupo at http://www.medhelp.org/forums/show/120      OR
at left of page almost top, under "Thyroid Disorders" in red click on "thyroid" it will take you to the forum.

If you have posted more than one post per the sites rules for doctors forums, you probably won't get in.  Or if the forum is full and not taking any more questions for the day, you can try another day.

I should add that the results of my thyroid scan and radioiodine uptake were:
6 hour   40.3%
24 hour 51.5%

I HAVE NO SYMPTOMS! Must I take the methimizole?
