Stress of the unknown

Anyone out there ever had the thyroid removed based solely on a fna with a typical cells....I have nodules and a goiter containing a cloudy/calcium like fluid....my options are rebiopsy every so many months or have a thyroidecdomy.....WHAT should I do????....my goiter developed I believe while pregnancy 3 yrs ago....all of my blood work is normal and outside of causing me stress my thyroid has not caused any other symptoms.....for example hyper or hypothyroidism....Is it really worth it to have it removed....I realize repeat biopsies would be wearing not to mention exspensive but Iam so afraid of actually having it removed.....Is it worth it to avoid the cancer scare and the stress of the unknown?????

Hi!
I agree with blue star mom.  I am one week post tt (age 56, female) and I am feeling great except for a little soreness which will go away in time.  I was soooooooooo scared about this atypical follicular cell FNA report that  both doctors said to get it done.  Additionally, read by other notes (irvingtonmom) my goiter was the size of two baseballs!!!! There is no pain involved after surgery, just severe discomfort and that only lasts a few days - Motrin or Tylenol with codeine is what my docs gave me.  I'm up and around after one hour post op.  Today I'm baking.  Gotta do something to keep my hands busy til I return to work on Monday!

I would get it done now and avoid further testing and the worry of "what if".  Mine turned out to be a tiny cancer that if left may and I stress MAY have turned into more.  I'm glad it's over!  Good luck!

Well, you know that this is one of those things that no one can decide for you, but I think that if you are in a position to go ahead and just take care of it you should. The upside is that once you have a TT then the stress about "what if" goes away and you can enjoy life without that worry. There really is no down side to the TT except being on medicine the rest of your life. My TT went well and I was up and about in just a couple of days. I did not really want to have my TT either, but my goiter started causing more problems after my FNA that there was no choice. Now I have peace of mind that if the cancer does come back it will show up on a simple blood test.
Best wishes
