Surgery vs Radioactive Iodine

Hello,

I have been recently diagnosed with Graves Disease\Hyperthroidism.  Also, I have Lupus that is in remission.  I am taking Methimazole and Propranolol.  My doctor wants me to take the medicine for 3 months and then do the radioactive iodine treatment.  I am leaning towards the surgery because of already having Lupus.  Is there anyone out there who has Lupus and has had either one of their treatments?

I would suggest surgery but that is only because my first RAI didn't work and I had to wait another year for the second one. It was a long year and I felt terrible!! They told me surgery was not an option for me though. I wish I had known about this board before I made my decision.

Bump for another look.

It's a hard decision to make without throwing Lupus on top of it. I don't know if the Lupus complicates the decison or not.
