Sweating

Hi there,
I'm waiting as patiently as I can to see the Professor endo that my doctor got me into - April 21st.
In the meantime I've developed this other symptom - excessive sweating and hot flashes - I'm not sure if it's from the thyroid, because hyperthyroid says intolerance to heat. I'm not intolerant to heat, it's 68 in the house at night and yet I go to sleep and wake up sweating and really hot. pins and needles in my arms and chest. My doctor thought maybe menopause? Great, two things at once!

Has anyone else had hot flashes and sweating form the hyperthyroid?
Also any suggestions on what to do? I've got the windows open but I'm freezing out the family :)
I won't take natural herbal just right now since we don't know what the thryroid nodule is and it's causing the hyperactivity.

Many thanks

The doc told me to take an Ativan before bed. I tried it last night and slept through the night. I think I did still hav ethe hot flashes, but I only felt them marginally in my sleep, not enough to wake up. This morning I am still hot once I got out of bed, but in general I feel musch more rested.
I don't think I can take Ativan every night though :)

Can I join this group too.  :)

I am 42. My mother went through menopause at 38 and was done before 46. SO I believe I may have her history. I have spoken to my OB and MD on the issues of sweating and hypo/ hyper. Both confirm this as a symptom of thyroid disease in general. ALso with the age approaching us - our poor hormones are whacked.

I did go onto peri at 38 when I was severly Grave's. That was the reason it happened. I have however noticed that since my thyroid levels are evening out in the 2.0's I am having less problems with the PMS/peri too.

WOnderful women issues. I do not really take any supplements for it either. I have the same worry as you on the nodule thing. I am however trying to limit caffine - sugar and white flour. I do find that changing my diet was also helpful.

I always said in my 20's - that when I turn 40 - I will need to change things. We'll I HAD to change alright. I didn't think it would have to be a complete make over though :)

I am borderline hypo and 58 years old and I have been having hot flushes and sweats for over 4 years. Have to sleep with my feet out of the bed every night. I have had all the tests and nothing else wrong with me so go guess.....

The thyroid from my own observation is a very complex gland.  I first went to the doctor due to hair loss, weight loss, excessive night sweats (soaking the sheets wet - sweats) and hot flashes.  Being 45, I shrugged it off when the first call from the Doc was to report that my hormone levels were in the menopausal range.  Because the Doc had observed a nodule during the physical exam, she had ordered an ultrasound as a follow up (good thing, I could have ended medical follow up with her first careless diagnosis)....that led to an additional 5 more nodules greater than 1cm being discovered. Another test...thyroid uptake followed - which showed two "hot" nodules....then another blood draw showing a high TSI...hyper.  I am still awaiting a final diagnosis to tell me what I really have and hopefully the appropriate course of treatment. Paitience is the key...and standing in your truth about what you know is happening with your body is very important.

The sweats may come and go....mine lasted 4 weeks solid...now I have the occasional hot flash.  The hormone imbalances or sweats may be caused by the thyroid condition.
No clues on how to alleviate your symptoms.  I hope some of this helps you!

I am on 112 levoxyl and am ver heat intollerant.  I leave a trail of sweat whil I vacuum the house at 73 degrees. Doesn't help that I live in Florida where the summers are hot too.  I am 39.  I have dry skin and get dehydrated when working out at the gym even if I drink water constantly.  I also have hair loss.

Going to the doc this week to see what they find.

I know exactly what you mean...So they don't go away? Great! I am waiting for my appt. to see Endo about a nodule too, And I am having wicked hot flashes at night too as well as some sweating. Oh, the joys of being a female! My doctor originally thought I was peri-menopausal but I felt i was too young ( 35) then after a year went by he finally checked my thyroid. I can moisturize and soak in oil and still be crazy itchy ten minutes after bathing! I too think I have symptoms of both hypo and hyper which I didn't know was possible.

I am getting hot flashes and night sweats. Then after the flashes and sweats are gone, I'm freezing. I have also had an episode where I get this rash over parts of my body and it feels burny and itchy. This doesn't happen too often though. My primary doctor said I was peri-menopausal.

I had all these symptoms before doctor found a nodule on my thyroid and had surgery 2 weeks ago.  And I'm still having these symptoms. Is it menopause, I don't know but that's the easy answer. There was something going on with my thyroid and now after my surgery my meds have to be adjusted. Sometimes I feel that I'm both hypo and hyper....

Well... I was hyoer before I had the TT and I was sweating. No hot flashes, but definitely sweating. I am now having the hot flashes but no sweating!!

Maybe putting a call into the Dr wouldnt hurt. I was hot last night and my temp was up a bit and I thought it was a fever, but it went down after an hour or so. Dr just called and said he needs to know these things, but it is perfectly normal to get hot etc...

Good luck!
