Swollen Lower Neck and Goiter

Hello Doctor:

In the last month, I have been feeling very bad and not sure where to turn. In the past, I have problems with my Thyroid in the past and feel that I may be experiencing problems again. Back in 2006. I was tested for any Thyroid disorders and the findings were:
TSH:  0.31
T3 111
T4,free: 1.0
I was re-tested and the test came back with my TSH at 1.04 which is in the normal range.

The Doctor decided to send me for an Ultrasound because of the size of my Thyroid. The Ultrasound came back with these findings:
The right lobe of the Thyroid measures 5 to 1cm x 2.2 cm x 1.2 cm, while the left lobe measures 5.6 cm x 1.9 cm x1.2 cm. Within the are several sub-centimeter foci of decreased echogenicity within both lobes of the Thyroid Gland, indeterminate. In there are multiple sub-centimeter lesions demonstrating decreased echogenicity present within both lobes. These lesions are indeterminate, but probably represent benign entities.

After the initial Ultrasound, the Doctor told me that no further treatment was necessary and that she would keep an eye on it. The Doctor who was following these findings has since stopped practicing.  Just recently, my right lower neck in the Thyroid area has become swollen and my throat has been sore for almost 2 months. I am extremely tired and have been experiencing severe chills. I have really had no fever to speak of. Occasionally it reaches 99.8 but that is inconsistent. I have not had a recent Thyroid test as the Doctor didn't order one with my last blood work done on 5/18.

I guess what I'm asking is..What is your opinion in this matter?  Do you think my feeling so bad lately can be from my Thyroid?

Thank you for your time,
Mollyrae

Thank you Chit Chat for your warm welcome and response. I did join the chat and was pleasantly surprised. I have had my blood work which came back in 2006 as having a Hyperthyroid. I was re-tested a few weeks later and the tests were in the normal range. I have not been tested since.

I do have a multi nodule goiter and am experiencing more swelling at this time. I have had the deepest chronic sore throat and headache for the last month that one could have not to mention not being able to get out of bed anymore. I am so cold lately as well.

I cannot see a Doctor til the 8th and I am miserable. Should I seek medical attention right away or should I see my regular Doc? I didn't want too many hands in the pot so to speak.

Any thoughts would be appreciated !!  :)

Get your doctor to run TSH, Free T4 and Free T3 test and try to post the results, along with the lab ranges.  Also suggest you ask for antibody testing and an updated ultrasound.

I'm sure others will also chime in with more suggestions.

WELCOME to our Community Mollyrae!  Others will probably jump in.  I would recommend when they do add'l labs at your appt today that you ask for an antibodies test to rule out any autoimmune disorder.  Has anybody used the term "thyroiditis" .. from what I've read on out community, this sometimes happens as you describe, but I'm not a doc -- just a thyroid patient -- but worth asking your Dr. about this.

You can also see an endocrinologist if you don't feel comfortable.  I would think the Dr will order another updated ultrasound.

Tonight at 7:00PM Eastern Time Dr. Lupo (from the expert forum) will be joining us here on MedHelp for a Live Health Chat.  You should come and then you can ask any other ?'s from todays appt to Dr.Lupo as well as to our own community!

WELCOME ABOARD!

To Anyone:

I had originally asked this question in the Expert Forum and the Forum has had it's quota for the day. Can anyone help me with these symptoms I am having? I have been feeling very bad and need help.

I will see the Doctor today but would like to know if this might be related or if anyone else with Thyroid problems has experienced this?

Thank you all.
