I was told 30 min to an hour: the longer the better.
I have to eat first thing in the morning. I don't have time to wait an hour. Then three hours for my vitamins.I take 0.05 mg levothyroxine. It's a small dosage. I think i'm going to try taking it a night on a empty stomach. Why do some say 30 minutes and others a hour? Which is it?
Anyone answer
Thanks very much. I will check those sites. Do you happen to suffer from bad heartburn or acid reflux? I have it right now. UGH!!!
I drink coffee with creamer as well, but I wait an hour after taking my thyroid pill (which is pure TORTURE!). It's just the calcium suppliments or "calcium-fortified" foods and some iron fortified, that should not be taken with your thyroid pill(s). Hopefully these links will post. If not, just google "thyroid drug interactions".

What do you mean about the calcium and thyroid replacement? What happens? I am on Synthroid due to partial thyroidectomy. I take my pill in the AM. I like to use a dairy based creamer for my coffee. Is this wrong to do? I also have cereal w/ milk sometimes. I am not taking any calcium supps. Where can I read up on this?
Whenever you take it, it's just really important to take it the same CONSISTANTLY every day. Many take it in the morning an hour before ingesting anything. It is best absorbed that way. It is recommended to take it in the morning because many have issues with sleep if taken in the evening. It should be taken on an empty stomach and some have problems waiting until the stomach contents are gone before going to bed. Calcium is thyroid replacement's worst enemy. You need to wait at least 4 hours after taking thyroid, before taking any calcium suppliments.
That is personally, my biggest challenge. I take my thyroid pill in the morning and then spend the rest of the day trying to remember to get that calcium in. And, for those of us who have had our thryoids out, (other than that thryoid replacement hormone) calcium is usually one of the MOST IMPORTANT things our body needs!
i was told to take it in the am 30min before eating.
In the hospital, we always give it in the morning prior to breakfast. The pharmacy instructs us to give it at that time.
I started on Synthroid 25 mcg around 5/29/08. I was talking it at night, around 9pm for 4 weeks, then I switched to the a.m. The reason I started it at night was because the Endo said if I was going to take a multivitamin (One A Day for example) in the morning, then take the Synthroid at night. I stopped taking the vitamins( not for any particular reason). So I decided to take the Synthroid in the morning. ( just easier to remember to take it).
I do not feel any difference. I don't know if it has anything to do with the dosage amount. I did read somewhere (I googled it) that some felt better taking it in the morning and some taking it at night.
Try taking it at night for a couple of weeks and see if you feel better overall.
Hope this was helpful.
