I take my thyroid med at 6.30am when I have my first coffee but no breakfast.
I have always done it consistantly and my levels are good 7 months Post RAI.
When I took it with just a glass of water and waited an hour for the cofee, I ended up with headaches and went Hyper. Seems I am a super dooper converter and drug sensitive.
I always take my synthroid and blood pressure meds.before I go to bed as I go to bed at the same time within an hour. This way I have an empty stomach and don't have to worry about when I get up and when I eat in the morning. This worked out really well when I had eye surgery. I didn't have to worry about my meds that morning. And I didn't have to change anything I usually do. As you said what ever works for you....this works for me as I am bad at remembering to take meds other wise
Sure, it's recommended to take thyroid meds on an empty stomach, but I've talked to people who've taken the same dose with coffee or a full breakfast for 30 years! The most important thing about taking thyroid meds is doing the same thing CONSISTANTLY. If you always take it with food then your body will have a harder time absorbing it. But if your consistant, it will get what it needs and you will find the dose that works for you that way. If you suddenly stop taking food with your dose and you've done that for years, you will notice a change in the level of hormone you're getting. Do what works for you, so that you don't forget to take it. Above all, be consistant.
Thyroid meds should be taken on an empty stomach. When you say your recent blood value, are you talking about your TSH? Did you have your free t3 and free t4 done as well?
I personally take my thyroid med first thing in the morning when I wake up, then I eat 1 hour after.
