T3 IS IMPROVED BUT NOW T4 IS LOW

I have started taking desiccated thyroid. My T3 has improved and is now in range, as is my TSH. However, my T4 is now only 10 when, prior to using the desiccated thyroid to treat both the TSH and the low T3, it was 12. What is happening here and what should be done about it? I was taking 60 mcg desiccated thyroid, which I believe is equal to 100 mcg synthroid.

Preference.  I had hives when on generic for synthroid and synthroid was to expensive.  My FT3 is actually down alot since I went down a grain but so is my T4.  But it is not outragously high and the FT3/4 levels have never been adjusted or looked at like the tsh was and it is just a range it is not nec normal for everyone but I will continue to watch for any symptoms.

Sorry to have high jacked your thread anajinn lol

I agree that you shouldn't mess with meds when you feel well.  However, keep a close eye on your FT3...I don't think you want it to go much higher (and watch for hyper symptoms).  Are you on dessicated due to a conversion issue or just preference?

I spread my meds out through the day and I stay pretty level.  I may try to add/decrease not sure yet I feel pretty good so not to willing to mess with it yet.

Your FT3 is over the top of the range a little.  FT4 is really too low.  Do you have "peaks and valleys" in energy level throughout the day that can be related to when you take your meds?  It might be a good idea, as Laura suggested above, to add a little T4 into the mix to get a better balance of FT3/FT4. With your FT3 so high, you'd probably want to lower your dessicated just a bit at the same time.  If your FT4 level were a bit higher, you'd have FT4 available for conversion to "tide you over" between meds doses and keep levels more constant.

Why is foreverlostmom answering questions which were directed at me?
anajinn... the question foreverlostmom answered was "not" directed at you; however, since this thread is 7 years old and those posters are no longer active on the forum, it's pretty irrelevant.

If you have current questions, you would get better attention if you post a new thread, which includes current information...

annajinn, please post actual results of FT3 and FT4, with reference ranges and TSH.  Do you have either hypo or hyper symptoms?

foreverlostmom, do you have hyper symptoms?
