I am a woman of the age of 28. I have been having issues with being thin my whole life {5'6 & 104lbs.} for about 10 years now my weight ranges between 97 to 107lbs. I have a TSH test level of 58.14 U/L. I am not sure but if the average levels are 0.3L to 4.0H, mine being at 58.14 concerns me alot. Why or How could it be so high? They say I have Hypothyroidism but, a results of it is weight gain...I have never weighed over 121 and that was when I was 9 1/2 monthes pregnant. I need some advice, that is all. Thanks
You should have your TSH test repeated and have free T3 and free T4 tested as well. Make sure that you request FREE T3 and FREE T4. These two test will tell you how much thyroid hormone is in your blood.
Although weight loss is more often a symptom of hypERthyroidism and weight gain a symptom of hypOthyroidism, they are not reliable symptoms of each. Many of our members find that they gain weight whenever levels are not optimal, hypo or hyper, and some lose weight hypo or hyper.
Do you have any other thyroid symptoms? Fatigue and/or drowsiness, cold or heat intolerance, constipation or diarrhea, decreased or increased heart rate and/or blood pressure...you can google a complete list. Why was your TSH tested?
