I presently do see a psychiatrist. I was hospitalized because of an anxiety attack a few years ago. At the time they said it was caused by my thyroid. I have never gotten rid of all the symptoms though. My numbers go up and down and my former endo said it was because they couldn't get me stabilized. My thyroid was still producing even though it was radiated and the nodules produced also so my doseage didn't always work. She didn't go by FT4 and FT3. that is why I changed endos. this one will. I have only seen him once, but go back on Monday to see what the increase in tirosent has done. I feel like it is too low, I really do but I also think I have some other issues. I have never been diagnosed with any mental disorder, even in the hospital so I really don't know exactly what it is. I have had depression and anxiety which supposedly were strictly caused by my thyroid. It has been a hard time for me over the years without being able to get stabilized. I really feel that this is the time that my stabilization is going to happen. I am willing to do whatever to get straightened out. I will not go on any psych drugs though. I did that for a year and it took me a year to get off the antidepressant and also another drug which reacted on me and I ended up in the hospital with suicide thoughts caused by the drug. What a trip. You know though with God all things work for good and He sure made good come out of all of these things. I will let you know how I make out. In the meantime thanks for answering me. It helps to know others are with me. Linda
Thanks for the symptoms. I don't think I have most of them. I am not sleeping and I am nervous not lethargic. I am having tension, anxious thoughts. I actually feel better than I did when my tsh was high. I was exhausted all the time and couldn't stay awake. I now think I have gone the opposite. Maybe my numbers are too low. I will find out on Tues. after the blood work is done. He also will check my FT4 and FT3. He also will look into other things if I am still not feeling well. I will copy those symptoms for future reference. Do you know what the hyper symptoms would be? Thank you again for your help. I can always depend on this forum. They certainly have been there for me. Thank you all
I'm currently in the same conundrum. I have just come to the conclusion that I will see a highly regarded psychiatrist and let them decide. I personally think it is the hyperthyroid, but why not remove all doubts. I will however, refuse "psychiatric medication" (like an ssri or benzo) because I know that they may only exacerbate the problem and will try to take a more holistic approach! Good luck and let me know what you find out!
