To best assess a thyroid test result, you have to look at it relative to where it falls within its reference range. So if you will post the ranges for those tests we can better assess your status.
thanks for giving me the answer my dr has taken my test in may my T4 16 and T3 5.0 was completely normal but only TSH was higher, was 4.5 and dr give me levaxin 50 mcg and said that take ur blood test after one month. on 4 june i took my blood test and now my TSH 2.9 T4 17 T3 5.2
You haven't mentioned if you have had hypothyroid symptoms or not. Please tell us about any of those you have had.
Beyond that, TSH is a pituitary hormone that is supposed to reflect levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4; however, there is no scientific data that shows that TSH correlates well with either. It would be much better to get tested for Free T3 and Free T4, along with TSH. TSH is even more unreliable as a diagnostic when already taking thyroid meds.
Then the next issue is the so-called "normal ranges". I won't get into the details about why, but these ranges are so broad that just being in the low end of the ranges is often inadequate. Many of our members report that symptom relief for them required that Free T3 was adjusted into the upper part of its range and Free T4 adjusted to around the middle of its range.
A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically, by testing and adjusting free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. So I suggest that you should make sure to get tested for Free T3 and Free T4. If the doctor resists, just insist on it and don't take no for an answer.
I also suggest that you should test for Vitamin D, B12, ferritin, and a full iron test panel. When all test results are available, if you want to post here, along with reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be glad to help interpret and advise further, in prep for your next doctor appointment. At that time you will need to find out if the doctor is willing to treat you clinically, as I described above.
Before becoming pregnant, it would be a good idea to get this testing done and find out what further is needed in the way of treatment for you.
