Saw Endo today!

Hello all,
Had my endo appt today.  I just love communication!!!!!
Well, I only wish my surgeon and Endo were on the same page.  When I saw my Endo he asked me if I was on meds and when I told him I was and as of the day after my surgery 1 month ago he about sounded like Homer Simpson (DOH).  So as of tomorrow I am off the meds and into the downward hike to Hypo.  I hopefull will have my blood tests on 12 March and hopefully after that my nuke'ing.  Lucky for me since my cancers(If that is lucky, :) ) I will only require a small dose of I131.  He told me I could go right home and not have to worry too much so you all will not see glowing from SOCAL from me.

Question, he did not tell me to go on a low iodine diet and just to stay away from seaweed (which I love sooo much!!)  anyother endo's tell you this?  I had to call him back to ask him this.  He also told me he wants my blood test to be around 50 before I get zapped!?!?!?!?

Any hoot, its down the zombie path!!

Happy Times!
Scott

I had to get a dose of 150 mlcrs and stay in the hospital for 2 days so consider yourself lucky! It should go real easy for you>My nuclear DR. said the same thing just stay away from seaweed and did not stress the LID much at all but i followed it anyway. He said my tsh had to be over 35 and mine was 46 when they gave me the pill.I guess it varies from dr to dr...Anyway good luck on your road to recovery.

They took me off Synthroid (cold turkey - no Cytomel) and had me on the LID for three weeks.  They wanted my TSH above 30 (the hospital thought it would take me 5+ weeks to get there).  After 3 weeks I was at 75.9.

If you want to follow the LID to ensure you get to 50 that fast, here's a pretty good link:

Check your meds too - many of them contain see-based products and/or iodine.  Stay away from soy too.

If you are like me you'll want to get HypoHell over with as soon as possible!  :-)

Good luck

Yeah, keep the positive attitude!  :-)

I've heard HypoHell described as nothing but wonderful (heavy sarcasm here).  Giving up Sushi was tough for me but I would have done anything to get through the HypoHell.

Hang tough and watch for that depression - it sneaks up on you but man, oh man, does it have a huge bite!!!

"This too shall pass"  :-)
