Thyro Complex?

I am being treated for hypothyroidism (125mg - levothyroxine) and my TSH is within normal range now but my symptoms have not gone away (weight gain, hair loss, constipation, always cold, etc...).  I was wondering if this is normal?  I have been on the levo for over 2 years now so I am losing hope.  My dr. had originally prescribed Synthroid but the pharmacy atomatically gave me the generic drug levothyroxine.  Should I demand Synthroid next time I get a refill - will this make a difference.  Also, someone mentioned taking and over the counter medication called "Thyroid Complex" has anyone heard of this or tried it?

Thanks to anyone who has answers for me - Brenda

If you are taking levothyroxine, I would stay away from products like "thyroid complex". If it works at all, it will mess up your med dosage.

No disrespect to Totie, but I would prefer a name brand T4 to generic. I have no doubt she has done very well with the generic, but neither my GP nor my Endo would perscribe a generic T4 med. When it comes to other drugs, my GP often perscribes a generic, but not when it comes to the thyroid.

I am not going to tell Totie that her fifteen years of experience means nothing. It's a lot more experience than I have. I'm glad her med is working for her. I'll be happy when mine is working for me.

I believe everyone reacts different to certain name brands. I take 125 mcg daily of levothyroid for the last two years, before that it was 200mcg daily for 13 years. I never gained weight. Never lost or gained. (Other current health issues, causing my current weight loss).

Sorry, but I responded to your post to Donna1969 before I noticed your own message.  Please see my comments there.  Believe me, you can feel much better, once you get your meds straightened out by a good doctor.

Brenda,

I am going through the same thing, although I haven't been on the meds for 2 years like you. It has been 6 months and it is not better at all. After my trip to the ER yesterday, I convinced my GP to give me Synthroid. He was not the one who prescribed the levo, my endo was. It's worth a shot. It can't hurt. Hats off to you for sticking it out this long. I don't know that I could...my symptoms are too bad.

I am picking up my new prescription today...I will let you know how I feel in a week or so.

Good luck and I would tell the Dr you want the name brand stuff. Make sure you get it at the same pharmacy too every time.
