Thyroid Medication

Hi There

Im just curious, does anyone know how long thyroid meds like Levothyroxine (eltroxin, synthroid, euthyrox etc.) "stays" in your body/system after you stopped taking the medication? How long until there is absolutely no replacement hormone in your system?

Cheers!

Technically it has a half life of one week. So what you took today, will start to effect next week. So if you stop then it can be anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks before it has all gone.
Mind you, if I stopped today, I know full well I would be in a coma in 3 weeks time, then dead in a few weeks after that.
I know you are coming off your meds at the moment due to being overmedicated in the first place. So it should be roughly the 4 weeks or so when you get tested again that your levels should be back to normal.
Don't be surprised if people here are not aware of your reasons for asking. We have had many here who just think thyroid meds are like an aspirin and they can stop and everything is ok. YOUR case is not like that!

For me, to be tested in 4 weeks in not enough to know my real numbers.

I got tested once at 6 weeks and then again (at the same dose) at 11 weeks.

In the firt one it seemed that I did not need and increase. In the second one my doctor actually increased my dose (based also on my symptoms.) The numbers were totally different.
