My TSH is rapidly changing

Hi - Lately my TSH has gone from 7.9 to 4 to 14.6 within a week and a half. I do not know what is happening. I was hospitalized lately for dizziness, shaking and naseua. The doctors have no idea what is going on. They cannot explain the ups and downs. My B12 level is also extremely low and I use the OrthoEvra patch to regulate my periods. I have had three dizzy episodes so far.

Can anyone help me to explain the rapidly changing TSH levels?? I would truly appreciate any ideas!!!

I am only assuming you had a full blood test as people whose vitamin B12 levels are too low also have low levels of folic acid. These both have similar symptoms. I would also do a search on the internet for side effects of your patches as I have read some where there is some problems with them. You may need to switch to a different maker. bestest

Depending on your age, other hormones may be throwing your TSH off.

It's also possible you may be developing TRab, and the antibodies are blocking your receptors, but not in extremely high numbers.

Another possibility would be medications you have started in the last two or three months that are affecting your thyroid.

Or an ongoing illness?

Anybody else out there have any thoughts?

I have had hypothyroidism for last 10 years with approx. the same dosage. I will ask the doctor about taking some more tests. She did my blood work earlier and just said I was very b12 deficient.

I don't know if fluctuating TSH levels is an indicator of Hashimoto onset or something like that?

Have they run lots of tests on your blood? Glucose levels, complex metabolic profile, other vitamin and mineral tests? Calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium?

Have they run a TRab test? Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Receptor antibodies? THAT would be worth asking about.

Do you have a history of thyroid disease?
