Thyroid Test

Hi. I asked my doctor  for a full check up as I felt tired most of the time and had weight gain. The result shows low Vitamin D ( 23 nmol/L) , TSH - 2.9 mU/L , Vitamin B12 - 354 pmol/L , Serum Folate - 38.5 nmol/L , Iron - 12.0 umol/L, MCH - 26.0 pg . Is it all normal ?

Your lab is using an old range for the TSH.  The "new" range is 0.3-3.0, so your level is on the high side.

Your B-12 is way too low... Most lab ranges are 200-900 or 200-1100 and most of us find that we have to keep levels at the very top of the range in order to keep symptoms at bay.  Low vitamin B-12 can cause the most horrendous tiredness imaginable.

For the other tests, we'd need the reference ranges...

Thanks for the reply. The range for TSH mentioned in the report is (0.50 - 4.4 ) Isn't that normal in this case?

Hello,

we need to know the reference ranges for these tests to answer well.

YOur vitamin d is way too low.  YOu should take a D3/K2 supplement (probably 5 - 10,000 IUI / day) and retest after 3 months.  Ideally vitamin d is around 50 (or at least middle of the reference range).

Your TSH seems to be on the high side of normal.  Given this is would be wise to get FT3 and FT4 (active thyroid hormones tested).  If the result is not middle of the range or  higher you may need thyroid supplement.

For the iron, B12 and Folate, would need to see the lab's reference range.;
