Give the selenium a try. You most likely have a goiter (inflammation/swelling of the thyroid). Most of us with Hashi's do. When the antibodies attack the thyroid, it causes inflammation. Some forum members have had good luck with selenium. As a bonus, selenium aids in converting T4 to T3, so it's a win/win.
Your TSH is quite high, so depending on your FT3 and FT4, it looks like you need a meds increase. Would your allergist or PCP increase your Synthroid until you can see the endo?
The pressure feels like having a tight tie on from the back. Feels like the trachea is being pushed on. I feel like I am hyper sensitive now. I am overwhelmed at the moment with all my thoughts.
Selenium helps some people with the fullness or tightness in the neck. Selenium can be toxic in too high doses, so if you take it, be sure to follow label directions.
where is the pressure? in the trachea area? You are under attack my friend.... Same thing happened to me. felt like someone had a pencil in my trachea all the time.
Thank you. I think the biggest irritation I have is the pressure in my throat. I thought it was my neck being out of alignment. I have been going to the chiropractor and he was telling me it was fine. So, now I know what I am feeling is my thyroid.
Oh, okay, we call it the ER (room), and I'm a little slow! LOL
It sounds like you have some hypo symptoms, and your TSH is high, which would support that.
Next step would be for your doctor to test FT3 and FT4. If you're not in the U.S., getting FT3 may prove a challenge. You might be able to increase your Synthroid and feel better. However, some people do not convert T4 (the "storage" form of the thyroid hormones and the one that's in Synthroid) into T3 (the "active" form and only form your cells can use) well. You can only tell that by testing FT3. If you are a slow converter, you would have to add a direct source of T3 (Cytomel and generics or desiccated porcine thyroid) to your meds.
Hashi's is an autoimmune disease. The antibodies attack your thyroid, eventually "killing" it. In the process, we lose more and more thyroid function all along. So, we have to increase meds as our thyroids fail more and more.
ED- Emergency Department.
I cannot think properly, feel like I have a tight tie on, always cold and am stiff and sore. Oh, and have half the hair I used too. lol Thanx
Elevated TPOab indicates Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is the most prevalent cause of hypothyroidism in the developed world. Don't be alarmed at the huge number...many of us have antibody counts in the thousands on diagnosis.
Your TSH is high, also indicating hypothyroidism. Your doctor should now test your FREE T3 and FREE T4 and discuss putting you on meds.
How do you feel? Do you have hypo symptoms? Please define "ED".
