Thyroid hormone levels and Alzheimer's Disease

No5
Hello.  I had a total thyoidectomy in 1995 and have been on a suppressive dose of Levothroid ever since.  I have already developed osteoporosis, which I have been told is most likely connected to the Levothroid dosage.  Recently, I have been reading about an additional connection between high thryroid hormone levels and Alzheimer's Disease.  I am extremely concerned about this issue.  If you can give further information, I would be very grateful.  Thank you.

Are you on med for your osteoporosis?  I've had osteopenia for quite a few years and have been on a dosage of calcium and have actually begun to turn it around and rebuild some of the bone I had lost.  I'm not sure that can happen with full blown osteoporosis or not, but it might be worth looking into.

Alzheimers is a form of Dementia where the brain cells die causing loss of memory and 'tangled' thoughts with the thinking process.
There are many forms of Dementia....Alzheimers being one of them.
Basically it is where the frontal lobe of the brain starts to die off.
There is thought to be some connection between thyroid issues and Dementia but not enough evidence to prove this.
Most types of Dementia are caused by aging....and Alzheimers being one of the most common signs of Dementia.

Personally I have worked with Aged Care and Dementia and noticed that 65% of the  people developed Dementia after drug/alcohol abuse, 35% old age and not one of the 62 Residents in the Aged Care Home I worked in ...had thyroid issues.

I always say.....dont worry about something that may NEVER happen.
And dont try and fix it if it isnt broken.

Life itself is hard enough with worrying about what MIGHT happen.
