I fully understand your panic. I've had 3 cancer scares in the last 3 years - breast, colon, and thyroid. Fortunately, they've turned out to be nothing (although the thyroid thing is still up in the air). Stll, the thought is always there.
You might want to ask your doc to run an iodine loading test. It's a urine test that measures the amount of iodine your body is excreting. It's really the only way to tell if you're deficient or not.
I've had 3 FNAs so far. While uncomfortable, the worst part of the entire procedure is waiting for the results. Make sure the FNA is ultrasound-guided and that they have a pathologist in the room to verify the samples before they send you home. If your dr or the facility doesn't do it this way, then get a prescription so you can get it done at a facility that will. This is in order to avoid a non-diagnostic FNA and having to do the whole thing again unnecessarily. And if they don't offer one, ask for an ice pack to wear on the way home. It really does help to reduce any swelling and bruising (and just feels good).
FYI, I'm on an iodine protocol, although I don't push it on anyone. It's an individual choice and should only be done after a great deal of research. I also highly recommend finding a healthcare practitioner to supervise your care if you decide to do this. I've had some slow, yet modest success while on this and a few other supplements. Of course, this whole thyroid thing is highly individualized and your mileage may vary.
If you'd like further info, feel free to PM me. Like I said, I'm not pushing this. I will, however, be happy to send you links so you can do your own research and make up your own mind about it.
Good luck with the dr on Thurs. Please keep us posted. :)
I am worried it could be cancer also. Both my parents have cancer. My dad prostate and my mother breast. I have been panicking over this.
Yes, I have been using iodized sea salt. I guess I will know when I have my Dr. appointment on Thursday. I also recently have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and high cholesterol. I am 47 year old female. I understand that lack of iodine can also cause this.
Have you been adding iodized salt? Could be your body needs the iodine, not the salt itself.
Iodine deficiency is a cause of goiter. At the same time, many thyroid patients have a difficult time tolerating iodine.
Guess it all depends on your body's individual needs.
