Thyroid nodules

I have been on synthyroid for 5 years due to hypothyroidism.  I was told I had hot nodules at the time I was diagnosed.  I recently underwent a thyroid sonogram which confirmed a multinodular goiter with dominant mass occupying the lower pole and thyroid isthmus....described as: dominant heterogeneous mass in lower pole 2 x 1.9 x 1.7 cm and a hypoechoic sold nodule in central portion of thyroid isthmus 8.4 mm in thickness.  I have been experiencing some tightness in my throat and sometimes it feels like I can't swallow in addition to feeling like there are dry crackers there all day long.  I am going to see my endocrinologist on Thursday.  What can I expect?

When I turned 51 they noted elevated TSH levels  and I was referred to the Endo and am now taking 100 mcg synthroid.    My sister has been diagnosed with hashimoto's disease....so I guess it runs in the family.  I am not familiar with 1131 ablation so I will have to look that up.

Most likely you will have biopsy for the cold nodules.
What was the original cause for hypothyroidism?
The nodule on the isthmus is less then 1 cm, so the doctor may decide if to wait and watch.
For the hot nodules the I131 ablation is very effective on patients over 40.
