Thyroid or just anxiety?

I was diagnosed with low thryoid about 5 yrs ago. Last May I started losing weight. My Dr told me I was having a thyroid storm and took me off .137 synthroid .  I immediately started having extreme anxiety. Dr gave me sedatives. Then 2 months later my thyroid was low again back on small dosage synthroid..  This happened 2 more times until last two months my tests have been just a little low now on.025.  However my anxiety is worse and I continue to lose weight. They told to see a psychiatrist. Could it still be my thyroiid ?

Greetings.  Yes, it could still be your thyroid. A low thyroid is hypothyroidism and that would cause a person to gain weight.  Have you been checked for Graves disease?  Graves disease causes a person to lose weight and be colder than others when cold and hotter than others when hot. Do you have any of this?

Have you had any history of anxiety before this thyroid diagnosis?

Are you male or female?

with females, hormone levels change constantly and you should get your tsh, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels checked in detail.  Increase in estrogen can cause anxiety.

What type of anxiety are you having?  situational? panic attacks? or is it a build up and soon you don't sleep for a day or can't sleep for more than two hours at a time type?  What type?

Are you going through anything in life that is stressful or is it that your mind is constantly active with worry?

Do you feel depressed?  Anyone in your family diagnosed with depression?

All of these questions will help you take a good look at yourself to help you figure out if you need a psychologist or not.

Remember, in western medicine you will almost always end up with a pill to take for a "solution".  If you can figure it out yourself you avoid the doctor bill and the pill.  On the other hand, if you know you are not capable of solving this situation out yourself then yes, please visit the psychologist.

Yes, it could still be your thyroid.  What was the original diagnosis for cause of you being hypothyroid?  Was it Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?  If you have thyroid related tset results from that time period, please post results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.  Also, what symptoms were you having before starting on thyroid med?  What thyroid med have you been taking?  Also, please post your latest thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.
