I went to the surgeon on thursday and he recomends a biopsy on one of the nodule. The thyroid scan with uptakes was normal. However,
one of the nodules is questionable small photopenic area overlying the lower pole of the right lobe. What ever that means?
Was the biopsy painful? Thanks for everyones help.
Many of us have nodules on our thyroid that are of no concern. Many doctors will not perform a biopsy until the nodule is at least 2 cm.
Nodules are very common with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis; do you know if you have that?
Would you please post your actual thyroid test results? Even though they are in the "normal" range, you could still have issues, if they aren't adequate for you.
Are you currently on any thyroid medication? What, if any, symptoms do you have? What prompted the ultrasound?
It's possible you won't, they usually don't biopsy until about 1CM. I guess it will depend on what the upscan shows and your risk factors and things. Your dr. will probably go over that with you. I found a lump on my thryoid in Jan. and it measures 3.3x2.8x??. It is pretty large and I did have a biopsy that was benign. I will go again at the end of July for another unltrasound and blood work. I didn't have the uptake scan, my dr. didn't feel it necessary since I do not have a thyroid function problem. Hope that helps, I know they are scary and even though the risk for a cancer is very low, it doesn't feel good when YOU are the one facing any chance at all. But please don't borrow trouble, take it one day at a time.
