Synthroid medication making me MORE tired??

I have been tired for 6 years. Off and on I take naps to cope. My hair started falling out and I went to the Dr. who told me that my free t4 was low. I was put on 75mcg of synthroid... and now I am EXHAUSTED. I wake up tired, struggle to get through the day. I feel like I'm half here, because I am so tired all the time. Can this be the synthroid? I thought I was supposed to feel a whole lot better??

Even though both of you have been taking a T4 med for a while, you are still having hypo symptoms.  I don't disagree with kitty that a pre-existing adrenal problem will preclude getting the desired effects from thyroid medication; however, the tiredness that you describe is more frequently related to inadequate medication, or the wrong type of medication.  We can only determine that by having a look at your thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on your lab reports.  If you will please post those, members will be able to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment.

If you have a co-existing adrenal insufficiency, starting on Synthroid can worsen symptoms.

Consider asking doctor for an ACTH Stimulation Test, ot at the very least, an 8am cortisol test.

In fact, the literature from levothyroxine meds (Synthroid, etc.) specifically recommend adrenal tests before instituting thryoid replacement hormone!
