If you have a co-existing adrenal insufficiency, starting on Synthroid can worsen symptoms.
Consider asking doctor for an ACTH Stimulation Test, ot at the very least, an 8am cortisol test.
In fact, the literature from levothyroxine meds (Synthroid, etc.) specifically recommend adrenal tests before instituting thryoid replacement hormone!
Thank you , so much I will go to my Dr and get a ACTH test,I have been taken levothyrixine for years and there are too many days that all I can think of is crawling back in bed, sometimes I sleep sleep 7 hrs a day on top of sleeping 8 hrs the night before
Even though both of you have been taking a T4 med for a while, you are still having hypo symptoms. I don't disagree with kitty that a pre-existing adrenal problem will preclude getting the desired effects from thyroid medication; however, the tiredness that you describe is more frequently related to inadequate medication, or the wrong type of medication. We can only determine that by having a look at your thyroid test results and reference ranges shown on your lab reports. If you will please post those, members will be able to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment.
