5.80 is not that high of a range, although it is out of range. What's more important, are the symptoms that may come with an out of range TSH. Are you experiencing any symptoms that are of concern??

While 5.80 is high for TSH, it's not horrible.  TSH is a pituitary hormone, which can vary widely, even throughout a day, so, while it "indicates" that you are hypothyroid, it is not a good diagnostic.  

Have you had the actual thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4, tested? If so, please post the results, with reference ranges, for members to assess and comment on.
