Thyroid surgery prolene sutures--problem

I had thyroid surgery last week and when the doctor tried to remove the nonabsorbable prolene stitch today, it snapped apart and most of it was left in the incision.  I was told the only way to get it out was to "reopen the incision under general anesthetia."  My other choice was to watch the incision as it heals to see if the prolene stitch (monofiliment) starts to come out by itself and could then be pulled out. They also said it would look OK cosmetically if it were left in. I work with TV with close-up shots and got this type suture so I'd look OK on camera.  This is my career and I'm worried. Is it OK to have the prolene stitch left in?  What are the risks?

As estrelinha suggests see a plastic surgeon ASAP.

I had stitch abscesses and they don't just make their way up and out .. they usually get ***** and icky and hurt alot as they are on the move out ....  I had many of them and they are not fun.

In my case they were from my body rejecting them so small pockets of abscess formed around them.

but that leads me to my next point:  they didn't heal like they should have either.

Do a google search for:  Spitting Stitches or Stitch Abscess

Also, do a MedHelp Search on top and put in the words: ChitChatNine Stitch Abscess or ChitChatNine Spitting Stitches and see if any of my old posts come up.

So sorry this is happening for you now ... C~
