Thyroid swollen?

Is it normal for the thyroid to swell when my immune system is being taxed? The swelling is just below the chin in the neck area  (center), it almost looks like a mild second chin. It is a little sore when this happens. But once I've gotten my health back in control it stops being sore. Should I be concerned? Go to the doctor? I would rather do something healthy at home if possible. This has been happening for many years with no serious problems but I am 44 and don't want it to be cancer or something at my age, would be harder to deal with!

I would suggest you ask your Doctor to check your thyroid levels with a Free T4, Free T3 and TSH labs.
Also ask for antibodies to be checked.
I know when I was hyperactive, my neck looked like a roosters neck lol.
You may be suffering with thyroiditis (inflammation) and not know it.
