The FNA is a bit scary! I had one done Apr 07 and just the thought of a needle in my throat terrified me, even more so than them finding cancer! I was given a shot of Lidocane first which hurt a little bit but helped. All I felt after that was a little pressure as he collected the samples. Plus, the risks of noduldes being cancer are rather small.
Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up. My head went spinning when the Dr. said Endo might have to take a biopsy of the nodule..... Those Are Strong words to absorb, but I'm trying to stay positive, even more so now. Second opinion absolutely

Ask for thyroid antibodies too. Sometimes the rest of thyroid tests come back normal but the antibodies would indicate an possible inflammitory process that could be causing it.

If your doc refuses to listen, try getting a second opinion.

Thank You for pointing out Hormone Imbalance. For quite some time now I have been dealing with the issue of loosing my hair, I looked up my meds that is how I know about  hair loss. My concerns were expressed to my DR. not to much feed back  I guess not to worry me or an oversight...Nevertheless I have an Up coming appointment. and I will absolutely  mention being tested  FreeT4- Free T3. and continue from there.

I'm not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV) but from all that I have read, hypertension, anxiety, depression and hair loss could lead to a hormone imbalance caused by your thyroid. Have they tested your Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies? That would show if it is a thyroid issue.

This question might sound silly but i'll ask it anyway, can having a nodule cause your hair to fall out, I am currently taking meds for hypertension, anxiety, depression and if I'm correct if not one but all of the meds I'm on make my hair fall out. I am curious to know if that nodule can have anything that would add on factors to loose my hair.

I had a thyroid nodule on hte right side too. The doctor put me on levoxyl to see if it would stop the growth and it didn't. I had biopsies done twice and they should cells but they couldn't determine if they were cancerous or not. I was feeling tired all the time and had lost 60 lbs in less than 6 months. Finally the doctor just said it was growing and to get it out. When I was under they sent it to be biopsied and it showed nothing so they left the left side thyroid alone. A week later the final report came in and it was papillary carcinoma. A week later they had to go back in and take the left side out and their was a 1mm papillary carcinoma on that side too. I just always wonder if they woild have taken the right side sooner instead of waiting that maybe they could have saved the left side. Now I will have to get RAI done and a full body scan to make sure it hasn't spread. I hope not but go with your gut if you feel something then get it out asap.

No/yes. My understanding is that it only gets bigger. Once it has reached a size of 1.5cm you doctor may want you to get a biopsy done. I hear that there is a med. that the doctor can give you to try and slow the growth process but that has not been an option for me. My thought though, is , do not worry yourself over the unknown and just take it as it comes. Positive thoughts do wonders.
