Thyroid Medications

I have inherited this tyroid problem from my mother, I am assuming it runs on her side of the family. Which I personally don't know much about, but she talked about it often. I am currently taking lithum carbonite and wellburtin and I need to know if any of these two contribute to my condition of Hyprothyroidism. My last doctor kept taking blood tests from me every 30 days and coming back to him for the results he would switch my meds from Levorxine to Sythroid. I am not sure, but I never received any type of answers from him regarding my levels because he claims that they were boucing back and forth. I've been on .75 mcg, .88 mcg., .100 mcg., .125 mcg and .137 mcg. I don't know which mcg belongs to either Levorixine or Synthroid.  I have soon confused since purberty becuase I have been overweight, and had mental health issues since 2002. I am currently at my local library ready to cry because of all this information I have just received from the internet. Could you please help me.  Even call me because I am totally terrified even e-mail as soon as possible.  By the way I am a 44 year old female, white, and severly overweight and if my thyroid is cause all this anguish in my life I need someone who is blessed by God with knowledge to help me. I really am in dire need of some.  Thank You In Advance. Respectfully Submitted and Awaiting Your Respond. -- deestreet --  Is Synthroid really bad for your overall health?  Because then I am really in trouble. PLEASE HELP! Please be honest with me.

Having hypothyroidism can make a person appear to be mentally ill. Or you may have both.
As stella 5349 said, you need a professional who understands your conditions. I recommend a psychiatrist as they know the antidepressant type meds the best and also know how hypothyroididm affects the thyroid and vice versa.
Even with my diagnosis of mild depression and anxiety, the psychiatrist understood that my thyroid levels were to blame.
Get copies of your bloodwork and medical records. Use the dates of the blood tests and try to match them up with the meds you were on at the time. If you used the same pharmacy to fill the RX's, they should be able to provide you with a record. Or ask each pharmacy for the same.
As ifupleze said, you need to be on the same brand of medication consistantly or the levels may bounce around and you can't really know which dose is best.
It's time for a new endo and hopefully a psychiatrist who is well recommended.

First calm down. Lithum will play havoc on your hypo levels. You need both Rx's so be patient. When was your last blood test? You seem to be on alot of suppressants. Do you work with a professional who understands BOTh your conditions? If you start changing meds that's OK but expect to see changes and they won't happen overnight. Synthroid is NOT bad. It just doesn't give relief to some and a change needs to be made. The best advice I can give and I have been hypo by radiation for 5 years is start a journal each day on how you feel. If you see patterns speak to your doctor ASAP.

Take care LOL

Synthroid only works on the thyroid.  I would go to an endocrinologist.  This doctor does not seem to know what to do.  You should be on a consistent dose of the same medication until your TSH level is within normal range.  You should get a full panel blood test including metabolic panel, DHEA, cortisol, VitD and B12, TSH and antibodies.  You could also have adrenal fatigue which has the same symptoms as low thyroid and thus the weight gain.Get all your records from this current doctor and take them to the endo who specializes in thyroid.
